Dear Colleagues,

It is a great pleasure to invite you to Language Teaching Tomorrow 2017, the international week hosted by the Language Centres of Tampere University of Applied Sciences and JAMK University of Applied Sciences, 8 – 12 May 2017. The purpose of the week is to enhance international collaboration among higher education language teachers around the world. The week is primarily aimed at the language teachers working in the partner universities of TAMK and JAMK. The international week serves as a forum for sharing experiences and promoting discoveries the participants have enjoyed (or struggled through?) during their efforts to develop teaching and learning in the field of languages and communication.

Theme of the Week

The theme of the week is Promoting Flexibility and Autonomy in Language Learning. A vital part of the week’s programme consists of presentations, workshops and round-table discussions given by the participants of the week. Language Teaching Tomorrow 2017 invites the participants to discuss, try out, and share current trends, topics and models for developing language education. It is appreciated if the presenters could enrich their presentations with interactive and participatory learning methods.

The programme can be found here.

Participants and Organisers

The participants of the week are language teachers and related professionals from different universities worldwide. Language teachers of TAMK and JAMK will be taking part in the international week as well. The language of the week is English. Read more about the organisers.

Social Programme

Language Teaching Tomorrow will be a great opportunity to get to know two Finnish cities, two universities, and experience Finnish culture and way of life. We will arrange social events such as a Dinner and a Sauna Evening, so that the visitors can meet their colleagues from different countries in informal settings. The social programme will enable the participants to share common interests, network and consider potential educational cooperation. These events are free for the participants of the week.

The participants will cover their own travel and accommodation costs, with the exception of travelling from Tampere to Jyväskylä on 10 May by bus. This trip will be covered by the organisers. Please note that the week ends in Jyväskylä, and the organisers do not cover the possible trip back to Tampere. The organisers will be hosting and offering the social events on Tuesday and Thursday evening, and there will be a casual meet and greet event for those arriving already on Sunday. The participants will need to cover the lunches and coffee and snacks at their own cost. The participants whose institutions are members of the ERASMUS+ mobility programme can apply for an ERASMUS+ grant at their home institutions.
